CASA RURAL IN TENERIFE
Experience the other side of Tenerife
Casa Rural in Tenerife: where nature and Canarian charm come together
Experience a different side of Tenerife by staying at a Casa Rural in Tenerife, a small, charming accommodation where you can explore the island authentically. These delightful cottages are often nestled in nature or in quaint villages. Most Casas Rurales come with a private kitchen, terrace, and often a barbecue. This gives you complete freedom to plan your day at your own pace: go hiking or spend time at the beach during the day, then fire up the barbecue and enjoy the tranquility long after sunset.
Many of these places have very little light pollution at night, letting you fully enjoy the spectacular starry sky.

On this page you’ll find a selection of a few beautiful Casas Rurales in Tenerife, so you can experience for yourself just how special this way of staying is.

Erjos – Easy to reach, right in the heart of nature
Erjos is a paradise for hikers and those wanting to unwind. The island’s most beautiful trails are literally right outside your door, from gentle walks to more challenging hikes.
A great example is the Sendero Monte del Agua, an easy self-guided trail that takes you to a stunning viewpoint overlooking the green slopes of the mountain. Along the way, you’ll find information boards in Spanish, English, and German, explaining the formation of the islands and their mountain ranges. The first part of the route is fully paved and almost flat, making it accessible even for those with limited mobility. From the viewpoint, the trail continues as a natural forest path – still manageable, but sturdy shoes are recommended.
Casa Rural Monte del Agua is my personal favorite spot, where I love to spend a few days every now and then. Erjos is easy to reach – even by bus – and once you arrive, the walking trails start right at the doorstep, so you hardly need to use your car.

Casa Rural Monte del Agua
Right by the hiking trails
- PR-TF 53 – Cuevas Negras (100 m)
- PR-TF 52 – Monte del Agua (180 m)
A true insider tip! This 200-year-old former farmhouse has been converted into three charming cottages, each with its own living room, bedroom, bathroom, and fully equipped kitchen, complete with heating for cooler nights.
Upon arrival, the friendly owner Ismael has already prepared a local goat cheese for you in the fridge, and a selection of wines is available in the wine cabinet (the cheese is a welcome gift, and the wine can be purchased at a reasonable price). Every morning, the local baker delivers fresh bread, quietly hung on your doorstep. Now that’s a wonderful way to start the day!
After a day of hiking or exploring the island, you can relax at the shared BBQ area with picnic tables. This charming spot is located on the old era of the farmhouse, a traditional stone threshing floor.
The cottages come with TV channels from around the world, streaming options, free WiFi, and private parking. A perfect spot for a holiday, with hiking trails literally right outside your door.

Los Carrizales – Deep in the Teno mountains
Los Carrizales lies deep in the Teno mountains and is reached via narrow mountain roads with plenty of hairpin bends. It’s perfectly manageable for experienced drivers, but something to keep in mind beforehand. At the same time, this is exactly what gives the place its remote and unspoiled feel.
The famous village of Masca is just 6 km away and definitely worth a visit, ideally early in the morning or later in the afternoon when it’s a bit quieter. For groceries, head to El Palmar (about a 20-minute drive), where a small supermarket stocks the essentials.

Casa Rural La Tinta
Pure and unspoiled
A special spot for those who want to experience Tenerife at a slower pace. Casa Rural La Tinta is tucked away in the remote village of Los Carrizales, right in the rugged Teno mountains. Here, you’re far from the bustling tourist areas, surrounded by silence, nature, and breathtaking mountain scenery.
This charming country house features a living room, two bedrooms (max. 4 guests), a fully equipped kitchen, and a terrace with sea and mountain views. Outside, there’s a garden with a barbecue, ideal for relaxing in the evening and gazing at the starry sky.
For hiking enthusiasts, this is an ideal base, with stunning trails through the Teno Mountains.

El Rosario – Between laurel forests and historic towns
El Rosario is located on the edge of the beautiful Bosque de la Esperanza, a vast forest area with trails winding through pine and laurel trees. Here you stay surrounded by greenery, in a spot that is often a little cooler and quieter than the coast.
What makes this area so special is its location at the meeting point of different landscapes. Following the TF-24, you drive along the island’s “spine” toward Teide National Park, with stunning views on both sides of Tenerife along the way. One of the highlights along this route is Mirador de Chipeque, where, on a clear day, you can enjoy a spectacular panorama of Teide and the surrounding valleys.
In 2023, this area was affected by a large forest fire, traces of which are still visible in some spots. At the same time, nature here shows its resilience: the Canarian pine recovers remarkably quickly, and the landscape is already flourishing again.

Finca La Majadera
Nature and culture
Finca La Majadera is set in a peaceful, green area with beautiful hiking trails. The finca consists of several detached villas offering plenty of privacy, each with its own terrace, barbecue, and heated private pool.
There are villas with one or two bedrooms. The smaller villa (approx. 45 m²) is cozy and comfortable, featuring a wood-burning stove that adds extra charm on cooler evenings in the forest.
The larger villas (approx. 90 m²) are my personal favorite: for a relatively small extra cost, you get significantly more space and a full fireplace in the living room, adding that little extra touch to your stay.
The villas come with a flatscreen TV, free WiFi, and a private parking space.
In short, it’s the perfect spot for anyone looking to combine peace and nature with the chance to explore nearby towns. You’ll stay surrounded by greenery, yet cities like San Cristóbal de La Laguna and Santa Cruz de Tenerife are just a short drive away.

Arico el Nuevo – A journey through time between mountains and coast

Arico el Nuevo is a village where time seems to have stood still. Narrow streets, whitewashed houses, and no high-rises—just like many Tenerife villages looked in the past. It was founded in the 18th century around natural springs and today is officially protected, with numerous well-preserved historic houses.
This place combines authentic charm with the sunnier side of the island.
You can enjoy beautiful mountain hikes here. Within 15 minutes, you can also reach the coast at Porís de Abona, a small fishing village largely untouched by mass tourism. The beach Los Abriguitos near Abades, a favorite spot for snorkelers, is also nearby. This makes it an ideal base for those seeking peace while still having the freedom to choose between mountains and coast.

El Sitio de la Casa
Best of both worlds
El Sitio de la Casa comprises five charming cottages, each full of character and authentic details that reflect the historic village of Arico el Nuevo. All cottages come with modern amenities, including WiFi, a flatscreen TV, and a fully equipped kitchen.
If you’re staying for at least a week, I’d recommend splurging a little and booking one of the villas with a private pool. Such a villa gives you plenty of space to relax after a day of sightseeing: lounge on the terrace, fire up the barbecue, and soak in the view.
